E-COMMERCE SURVIVORS DURING THE PANDEMIC

In the last decade e-commerce has ballooned, businesses and even individuals are earning millions in sales through selling products/services online. The ever changing development of technology and online resources produces a fast-paced environment for the e-commerce world, with new trends and techniques emerging every day.

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way the entire world operates. E-commerce has been operating at an all-time high in some cases, with organisations breaking sales expectations within the first few weeks of lockdown.

Last month the Retail Gazette online sales acceleration was underpinned by the continued success of almost every category – except for fashion. Leading the pack, electrical sales saw the largest increase – up a staggering 99.7 per cent year-on-year. Visit Retail Gazette and read more on the impact of lockdown and online retail.

WHY IS YOUR WEBSITE IMPORTANT

There are a few guilty phrases we have often used at work or during our home life, “I just don’t have the time,” or “now isn’t a good time for me.” are a few replies that we come up with when we are thinking about making changes.

A rebrand – No time!
New content – Not just now!
Website?… We’ve got one, no time at the moment!

We must adapt to maintain an online presence and what is ultimately the shop front to your company. It is imperative to always strive to keep your website fresh and updated.
These things must be reviewed to avoid being left behind.

There is no perfect time than right now to invest in long-term strategy, before you are once again too busy to act or if you already have a website, it is time to brainstorm and question is your website up to date.

Your website is often the first impression a potential customer may have of your business. Web accessibility is one of the most important things you can do for the online community and your users, that makes navigation simpler for those with disabilities.

We have to consider how accessible your website is for users with disabilities. Enhancing your website with accessibility features, will enrich the experience. It will be smoother and more enjoyable for every user who visits your site. Accommodating everyone’s needs is essential to an inclusive experience for all. An accessible website provides the ability to engage with web material as equally as others. Adding in accessibility tools is much easier than you may think and you are more likely to have the ability to enhance accessibility through your web platform.

Making a website accessible means removing these technical barriers that limit the content available to people with disabilities or make it difficult for them to navigate the internet.

CORONAVIRUS: DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

Sometimes we step away from the digital world to raise awareness on a topic which is equally important to us and for the environment.

Working wearing a facemask in the office

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, face coverings have boomed in worldwide popularity. In many jurisdictions they are now mandatory for going out in public; in England they have been compulsory on public transport since 15 June and will be compulsory in shops from 24 July.

Each month GreenMatters statistics show globally we are using 129 billion face masks and 65 billion plastic gloves. Some masks are reusable however for single-use options, every time a mask is thrown away we are generating more rubbish for landfill. In five years time will masks become the new single-use plastic water bottles?
